Abstract The paper shows that the strengthening mechanisms at the duplex stainless steels' heat-affected zone (HAZ) are sensitive to the volume fractions of the different austenite morphologies and the orientation relationships of these austenite morphologies with ferrite. Also, the nitrogen content in these phases and the ferrite grain size significantly influence the strengthening mechanisms at the HAZs for the tested cooling times. Considering their morphologies and geometrical distributions, the different austenite volume fractions were calculated for each cooling time at the HAZ corresponding to two duplex stainless steels (UNS S31803 and UNS S32304). Predictions of the main macroscopic mechanical properties, as the yield and ultimate tensile strengths, were developed by knowing the features of the local phases. This approach clarifies the contribution of the different strengthening mechanisms during the strain at the simulated HAZs of the studied duplex stainless steels.

En el presente estudio se analizaron algunos patrones de diversidad y distribución de macrohongos en relación con el paisaje antropogénico en varios tramos de bosques del departamento de Caldas. Se propuso evaluar todos los géneros encontrados en las salidas realizadas. Se hace la relación de los géneros encontrados, como indicadores para el monitoreo biológico de la Eco-región. Los géneros encontrados corresponden al orden Agaricales con 12 familias y 35 géneros; seguido del orden Polyporales con cinco familias y 11 géneros. Mientras que las accesiones que se encontraron en menor proporción fueron las correspondientes a los órdenes Auriculariales, Geastrales, Gleophyllales, Gomphales, Hymenochaetales, Leotiales, Rusulales, Schizophyllales y Xylariales. Los materiales en los que se encontraron todos los géneros de macromicetos fueron definidos en siete sustratos como tronco en descomposición (TD), hojarasca (HJ), materia orgánica (MO), tronco vivo (TV), suelo (SU), estiércol de equino (EE) y restos de vegetales (RV). A su vez, se pretende que este trabajo forme parte de los estudios de investigación y monitoreo de la Eco-región del departamento de Caldas para comprender los procesos biológicos que se generan en el área, y a partir de éstos plantear formas alternativas de manejo y conservación de los recursos que componen la biodiversidad. Se plantea la importancia de los hongos en el equilibrio de los ecosistemas y el mantenimiento de la biodiversidad en los bosques tropicales.

Some diversity and distribution patterns of macromycetes, related to the anthropogenic landscape in several forest stretches in the Department of Caldas, were analyzed in this study. It was proposed to evaluate all the types found in the different field trips which were carried out. A relation of all types found is made as indicators for the biological monitoring of the Eco-region. The types found mainly correspond to the Agaricales order with 12 families and 35 types, followed by the Polypores order with 5 families and 11 types, while the accessions found in less quantity were those corresponding to the orders Auricular, Geastrales, Gleophyllales, Gomphales, Hymenochaetales, Leotiales, Russulales, Schizophyllales and Xylariales. The materials in which all these macromycetes types were found, were defined in seven substrata including rotten trunks (RT), fallen leaves (FL), organic matter (OM), live trunks (LT), soil (S), equine manure (EM) and vegetables remains (VR). Also, this work pretends to make a part of the research and monitoring studies of the Department of Caldas Eco-region in order to understand the biological processes generated in this region and, from these, propose alternative ways for the management and conservation of the resources that compose biodiversity. The importance of fungus in the ecosystems balance and in the maintenance of biodiversity in the tropical forests in also presented.

Abstract: The lack of political support for low inflation and the existence of serious threats of Central Bank Independence (CBI) removal may induce a gradual approach to disinflation by an independent and committed Central Bank (CB). A simple two-period model is used to link two facts observed in Colombia: the gradual disinflation process and the repeated threats to CBI coming from policymakers (Congress and the Government). The model is based on the assumption that, by itself, the CB is independent and directly able to commit to announced inflation targets. Nevertheless, policymakers want the discretionary solution and try to remove the independent and committed CB if the target differs from it. These external threats to the CBI hamper its ability to commit and result in a gradual path of disinflation that lies above the levels of inflation chosen by a committed CB in the absence of threats to its independence.

Resumen: La falta de apoyo político para reducir la inflación y la existencia de graves amenazas a la independencia del banco central pueden inducir a una desinflación gradual por parte de un banco central comprometido. Dos hechos observados en Colombia, un proceso de desinflación gradual y las repetidas amenazas a la independencia del banco central por parte del gobierno y del Congreso, serán analizados a partir de un modelo teórico de dos periodos. El modelo está basado en el supuesto de que el banco central es independiente y se compromete con la meta de inflación anunciada, a la vez que las autoridades buscan una solución discrecional e intentan eliminar la independencia del banco si la meta difiere de dicha solución. Estas amenazas afectan la capacidad del banco para comprometerse y dan por resultado un proceso de desinflación gradual con tasas de inflación más altas que las obtenidas en ausencia de dichas amenazas.

Debido a su alto potencial agrícola y nutritivo, el interés por la quinua se ha incrementado en los últimos años, convirtiéndola en alternativa de diversificación para la región andina. Sin embargo, se han detectado necesidades limitantes, así como buenas posibilidades de mejoramiento genético, aún escasamente exploradas. En la presente investigación, llevada a cabo en la vereda San Francisco del municipio de Iles, Nariño, se evaluaron 16 líneas de quinua dulce. Una parte de ellas fueron selecciones provenientes de los genotipos SL47, Piartal y Tunkahuan. El resto consistió en cuatro testigos comerciales (SL47, Piartal, Tunkahuan y Blanca de Jericó). El estudio fue conducido bajo un diseño de bloques al azar con cuatro repeticiones, a través del cual se evaluaron algunos componentes de rendimiento (altura de la planta, longitud de panoja, peso de 1.000 granos, y rendimiento), la reacción al mildeo velloso y las características fenológicas. Posteriormente todas las variables fueron sometidas a análisis de varianza, prueba de Tukey (5%) y evaluación del grado de asociación por medio del análisis de correlaciones de Pearson. Los resultados mostraron la precocidad del grupo SL47 (128,75 a 135 días a madurez fisiológica). Al comparar las líneas con sus testigos, se observa que el grupo Tunkahuan (S20, S39, S44) obtuvo ganancia genética en rendimiento (2.635,25 a 2.699,83 kg ha-1). El análisis de correlación mostró que hay asociación significativa entre las variables altura de la planta y longitud de panoja (0,739) por una parte, y por otra entre rendimiento y peso de 1.000 granos (0,647). SL47 testigo alcanzó el mayor índice de selección (0,960), mostrándose superior a las demás líneas.

Due to its nutritious and agricultural potential, interest on quinoa has increased lately, turning it into a diversification alternative for the andean region. However, the detection of relevant needs and unexplored breeding possibilities has led to the present research study, which consisted in the evaluation of 16 lines of sweet quinoa. Part of them were accessions obtained from genotypes SL47, Piartal and Tunkahuan, and the rest were four commercial controls (SL47, Piartal, Tunkahuan and Blanca de Jerico). The study was conducted in the locality of San Francisco of the municipality of Iles (Nariño, Colombia), under a random block experimental design with four repetitions, evaluating some yield components such as plant height, panicle length, 1,000 grain weight and yield, reaction to downy mildew, and certain phenological traits. An analysis of variance was applied to the obtained data, together with a Tukey test (5%) and a Pearson correlation analysis. The results showed the precocity of SL47 (128.75 to 135 days at physiological maturity). In comparing the lines to the controls, the Tunkahuan group (S20, S39 and S44) exhibited genetic improvement regarding yield (2,635.25 to 2,699.83 kg ha-1). The correlation analysis revealed significant associations between plant height and panicle length, on the one hand, and between yield and 1,000 grain weight, on the other hand. Having attained the best selection index, control SL47 proved to be the best of all the evaluated lines.

El presente trabajo hace parte de la Séptima Maratón de muestreo taxonómico realizada por el Jardín Botánico de la Universidad de Caldas del 8 al 11 de diciembre de 2006, en 2 relictos boscosos pertenecientes a una zona de vida de bosque húmedo tropical montano bajo de la vereda “La Cuchilla” de Marmato, Caldas, ubicado a 2.100 msnm. Las colecciones trabajadas se depositaron en la micoteca del Jardín Botánico de la Universidad de Caldas (JBUC). Para efectos taxonómicos, se realizaron colectas de carpoforos de hongos macromicetos durante cuatro días en 2 relictos boscosos. De los análisis macroscópicos y microscópicos de los hongos, se determinó características del pileo, himenoforo, estípite, deposito de esporas, dimensiones de las esporas y tipo de sustrato. Se revisaron 72 colecciones en total, de las cuales 5 especies pertenecen a la clase Ascomycota, distribuidas en 4 géneros, 3 familias y 2 órdenes; las otras 67 especies están distribuidas en 16 órdenes, 26 familias y 51 géneros de la clase Basidiomycota. Las familias Tricholomataceae, Lycoperdaceae, Coriolaceae y Agaricaceae, fueron las que presentaron mayor cantidad de géneros. De estos, los más comunes son: Auricularia, Collybia, Coprinus, Coriolus, Gymnopus, Lepiota, Lycoperdon, Marasmius, Mycena, Oudemansiella, Ramaria y Xylaria.

The present work is part of the Seventh Marathon of taxonomic sampling carried out by the Botanical Garden at Universidad de Caldas from December 8th to 11th 2006, in 2 woody relicts pertaining to a life zone of low tropical humid mountainous forest of the municipal rural settlement “La Cuchilla” of Marmato, Caldas, located 2,100 m.a.s.l. The worked collections were deposited in the fungus library of the Botanical Garden of the Universidad de Caldas (JBUC). For taxonomic effects, carpophores of macromycete fungi were collected during four days in 2 relicts. From the macroscospic and microscopic analyses of the fungi, the cap, hymenphore, stalk, spore deposits, spore dimensions and substrate type characteristics were determined. Altogether, 72 collections were reviewed, of which 5 species belong to the Ascomycota class, distributed in 4 genera, 3 families and 2 orders; the other 67 species are distributed in 16 orders, 26 families and 51 genera of the Basidiomycota class. The Tricholomataceae, Lycoperdaceae, Coriolaceae and Agaricaceae families presented greater amounts of genera. Of these the most common are: Auricularia, Collybia, Coprinus, Coriolus, Gymnopus, Lepiota, Lycoperdon, Marasmius, Mycena, Oudemansiella, Ramaria and Xylaria.

Introduction. Ophthalmic artery aneurysms are infrequent lesions and they have very specific particularities. Objective. to present the anatomoclinical and surgical characteristic of our patients with ophthalmic aneurysms and to analyze our surgical results. Patient and methods. 604 patients with intracranial aneurysms were operated on between January 1982 and December 2004. There were 50 patients with ophthalmic artery aneurysms. Average age was 52 years, 80% were women, 60% harbored multiple aneurysms and 20% were giant lesions. 12% had bilateral ophthalmic aneurysms. 20% of ophthalmic aneurysms were incidental. 50% had ophthalmological manifestations; howewer, this presentation occurred in 100% of the patients with large and giant aneurysms. Initially, 12% of ophthalmologic disorders were missed. We utilized unilateral or bilateral pterional approach associated to others in multiple aneurysms. We performed retrograde decompression-suction technique modified for large and giant aneurysms. Results. Thirty patients (60%) obtained a complete recovery, fourteen patients (28%) an incomplete recovery and two were seriously disabled. There were not patients in vegetative state. There were four deaths (8%). 50% of postoperatory deficits disappeared and 64% of ophthalmologic disorders improved three months later. Conclusion. Microsurgical method allowed to treat unique, multiple, bilateral, large and giant ophthalmic aneurysms with good recovery of neurological and visual deficits.

Introducción. Los aneurismas de la arteria oftálmica son lesiones poco frecuentes y con particularidades específicas. Objetivo. Presentar las características anatomoclínicas, quirúrgicas y los resultados del tratamiento microquirúrgico de nuestros pacientes con aneurismas de esta región. Pacientes y métodos. 604 pacientes con aneurismas intracraneales fueron llevados al quirófano entre enero de 1982 y diciembre del 2004. Hubo 50 pacientes con aneurismas de la región de la arteria oftálmica. El promedio de edad fue de 52 años, el 80% fueron mujeres, el 60% presentaban aneurismas múltiples y un 20% gigantes. El 12% poseían lesiones aneurismáticas bilaterales. El 20% de los aneurismas fueron incidentales. El 50% tenían manifestaciones oftalmológicas y la frecuencia se elevó al 100% en los aneurismas grandes y gigantes. El 16 % de los trastornos visuales fueron ignorados o confundidos inicialmente. En aneurismas múltiples empleamos la ruta pterional uni o bilateral asociada a otros abordajes. En los aneurismas oftálmicos grandes o gigantes utilizamos la técnica de descompresión-succión retrógrada modificada. Resultados. Treinta pacientes (60%) obtuvieron una recuperación completa, catorce pacientes (28%) una recuperación incompleta y dos incapacidad grave. No hubo pacientes en estado vegetativo. Hubo cuatro fallecidos (8%). El 50% de los déficit postoperatorios desaparecieron y el 64% de los trastornos visuales mejoraron a los tres meses. Conclusión. El método microquirúrgico permitió tratar aneurismas de la región de la arteria oftálmica únicos, múltiples, bilaterales, grandes y gigantes con buena recuperación de los déficit neurológicos y de los trastornos visuales.
