The current materials research field demands sophisticated tests and simulations to predict creep behavior, meet design needs, and save time and resources. This demands an appropriate mathematical formalism that can represent creep data for different materials and loading conditions. In this context, mathematical models such as θ-Projection and ν Concept can be applied to predict the behavior of materials under creep conditions. The main goal of this study involves the application of such methodologies to predict a creep curve for Ti-6Al-4V. In a preliminary assessment, both equation parameters, determined by computational techniques and an experimental database, enabled the determination of the strain-time curve of Ti-6Al-4V at 465 MPa and 500 ºC. The analysis showed that both methods have acceptable accuracy to predict primary, secondary, and tertiary creep behavior for Ti-6Al-4V. However, results indicated that the ν Concept produced a creep curve with better agreement with the experimental data. The technique used for obtaining parameters is promising and should be improved for future research.

Abstract Over the years, the demand for high engine efficiency has resulted in the development of new generation superalloys with improved elevated temperature properties, especially creep resistance. This study aimed to evaluate creep and mechanical behavior of Inconel 718 superalloy. Creep tests were performed at temperature range of 650 to 700 °C and stress range of 625 to 814 MPa. Hot tensile and oxidation tests were performed and the characterization techniques used in this study were scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for microstructural and fracture surface analysis, transmission electron microscopy (TEM) for precipitates analysis; grazing X-ray diffraction for analysis of oxide formation and Vickers microhardness. The analyze of stress exponent value (n = 36.48) and activation energy (Qc = 512.97 kJ/mol), suggested that creep mechanism at 650 °C was the climb dislocation mechanism. The Inconel 718 presented ductile fracture at 650 and 700 °C and intergranular fracture to 675 °C.

Abstract The mechanical properties of age-hardenable aluminum alloys are strongly influenced by the volume fraction, size and spacing of hardening precipitates. In addition, researches have shown that interrupted ageing (T6I4) could benefit the hardening response of these alloys. Interrupted ageing is a term generally used for the microstructural development process of an alloy aged at a reduced temperature after partially aged at a higher temperature. Thus, this process produces a change in the mechanical properties of the alloy. In this study, the precipitate structures and mechanical properties of AA6351 and AA7050 alloys were investigated. Transmission electron microscopy analyses of the hardening precipitates were carried out. Hardness and tensile properties were performed to compare the effect of disrupted ageing on AA6351-T6 / AA6351-T6I4 and AA7050-T7451 / AA7050-T6I4 alloys. AA6351-T6I4 showed a higher volumetric fraction of hardening precipitates with heterogeneous size and resistance lower than AA6351-T6. In addition, AA7050-T6I4 showed a higher volumetric fraction of hardening precipitates with smaller size and similar resistance to AA7050-T7451. However, in both cases, interrupted ageing contributed to increase ductility and toughness.

The work aims the study of the corrosion behavior of nitride plasma-assisted PVD coated Ti-6Al-4V alloy in 2 M NaOH at 25 and 60°C, using open-circuit potential (OCP) versus time measurements, potentiodynamic polarization and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The uncoated Ti-6Al-4V alloy showed a passive behavior. The TiN and TiAlN/TiAlCrN coated Ti-6Al-4V alloy also presented a passive behavior and the corrosion potential remained at the same range when compared with the potential of the uncoated alloy. The TiN hard coating showed a superior corrosion resistance, which was evidenced by lower corrosion current densities and higher impedance values. The increase in temperature decreased the corrosion resistance of both uncoated and coated alloy in NaOH.

In this work, the static mechanical properties and cyclic fatigue life of 3 mol. (%) Y2O3-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystalline (3Y-TZP) ceramics were investigated. Pre-sintered samples were sintered in air at 1600 °C for 120 minutes, and characterized by X ray diffraction and scanning electronic microscopy. Hardness and fracture toughness were determined by Vicker's indentation method, and Modulus of Rupture was determined by four-point bending testing. Fully dense sintered samples, near to 100% of theoretical density, presented hardness, fracture toughness and bending strength of 13.5 GPa, 8.2 MPa.m½ and 880 MPa, respectively. The cyclic fatigue tests were also realized using four-point bending testing, within a frequency of 25 Hz and stress ratio R of 0.1. The increasing of load stress lead to decreasing of the number of cycles and the run-out specimens number. The tetragonal-monoclinic (t-m) ZrO2-transformation observed by X ray diffraction contributes to the increasing of the fatigue life. The 3Y-TZP samples clearly presents a range of loading conditions where cyclic fatigue can be detected.
