RESUMO Com o objetivo de identificar de que forma a Gestão do Conhecimento pode contribuir como suporte ao Business Process Management, realizou-se uma pesquisa descritiva, com abordagem quantitativa, do tipo survey. A partir da teoria pesquisada, elaborou-se o modelo conceitual, base para o instrumento de coleta de dados, que investigou a relação integrativa entre as práticas do Modelo SECI e as atividades do ciclo de vida da gestão por processos. Verificou-se que há o suporte da criação do conhecimento em todas as fases do ciclo de vida e que o Modelo SECI impacta de forma diferente nessas atividades. Foram também levantadas as principais práticas de conversão do conhecimento nas perspectivas dos respondentes. O estudo amplia a discussão sobre a relação integrativa entre os temas pesquisados, preenchendo uma lacuna entre a teoria sobre a conversão do conhecimento e as práticas aplicáveis nas atividades de gestão por processos; além de contribuir para a realização de pesquisas futuras sobre o tema, a partir do modelo conceitual desenvolvido, com o apoio do instrumento de coleta de dados na íntegra ou modificado; os resultados da pesquisa também podem servir de apoio a gestores no tocante à priorização ao estímulo de determinadas práticas de conversão do conhecimento.

ABSTRACT In order to identify how Knowledge Management can contribute to support the Business Process Management, a descriptive survey with quantitative approach was conducted. From the researched theory, a conceptual model, which was the basis for the data collection instrument, was elaborated. It was used to investigate the integrative relationship between the practices of the SECI Model and the activities of the process management life cycle. It was found that knowledge creation is supported at all stages of the life cycle and that the SECI Model impacts differently on these activities. The main practices of knowledge conversion from the respondents' perspectives were also raised. he study broadens the discussion about the integrative relationship between the researched themes, filling a gap between the theory of knowledge conversion and the applicable practices in process management activities; In addition to contributing to future research on the theme, based on the developed conceptual model, with the support of the data collection instrument in its entirety or modified version; the survey results can also support managers in prioritizing the stimulation of certain knowledge conversion practices.

Resumo A pesquisa focalizou o uso de fontes de informação sobre o ambiente organizacional por gestores de startups. Buscou-se caracterizar a relevância dos setores do ambiente externo para o negócio, os fatores que motivam a busca de informação por parte do gestor, e o grau de relevância e confiabilidade das fontes de informação. A metodologia de pesquisa foi baseada na combinação de métodos quantitativos e qualitativos. Para a coleta de dados quantitativos, foi utilizado um questionário online, por meio do qual foram obtidas 60 respostas. Após a análise de resultados, como método de pesquisa qualitativo, foram realizadas entrevistas com três gestores envolvidos com programas de incubação, aceleração e investimento em startups, para que os dados fossem discutidos. Os resultados demonstraram que os empreendedores reconhecem os clientes e a tecnologia como principais setores do ambiente externo que afetam seus negócios, e que há preocupação em buscar informações para gerar inovações e embasar decisões. Além disso, foi possível verificar a relevância e a confiabilidade atribuídas às fontes de informação internas, como sócios/empregados e bases de dados de suas próprias empresas, e a relevância de novas fontes digitais de informação, em detrimento de fontes tradicionais.

Abstract The study focused the use of information sources about the organizational environment by startup managers. The research characterized the relevance of the external environment sectors for business, the factors that motivate the managers to seek information, and the relevance and reliability of information sources. The research methodology was based on the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. The collection of quantitative data, was made through the use of an online questionnaire through which 60 responses were obtained. After the analysis of the quantitative interviews were conducted with three managers involved in the incubation, acceleration and startup investment programs, in order to discuss the data. Research has shown that entrepreneurs recognize customers and technology as key external environment sectors that affect their businesses and demonstrated their concern to seek information in order to generate innovation and support decisions. In addition, the study showed the relevance and reliability attributed to internal information sources, such as partners/employees and their own corporate databases; and the relevance of new digital information sources as compared with traditional sources.

RESUMO O presente trabalho apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa a respeito dos comportamentos e valores informacionais em uma empresa do setor de transporte aéreo brasileiro. Acredita-se que tais comportamentos e valores resultam no uso eficiente da informação que, por sua vez, irá contribuir para a melhoria do desempenho organizacional. Os dados coletados para o presente estudo foram obtidos mediante a aplicação de um questionário distribuído via Internet e a realização de seis entrevistas semiestruturadas. As respostas dos 32 profissionais que participaram do estudo demonstraram que, algumas das capacidades consideradas fundamentais à obtenção de um desempenho superior quanto ao uso efetivo da informação, necessitam de maior atenção por parte dos gestores da organização.

ABSTRACT This paper presents the results of a study concerning the behavior and informational values in a company of the Brazilian airline industry. It is believed that such behaviors and values result in efficient use of information, and this will contribute to an improvement of organizational performance. The data collected for this study were obtained through an online questionnaire and six semi-structured interviews. The responses of 32 professionals who participated of the study demonstrated that some of the essential skills for a superior performance concerning the use of information, need greater attention from the organization's managers.

O interesse pelo compartilhamento da informação em ambientes organizacionais é cada vez maior, já que os investimentos na área podem contribuir para o crescimento e desenvolvimento das empresas. Nesse sentido, por meio de uma revisão da literatura, o artigo identifica e analisa as principais influências e barreiras do compartilhamento da informação em ambientes organizacionais. Com base nessa revisão, reflete-se a respeito dos principais fatores que influenciam as trocas de informação entre pessoas em contextos organizacionais. As principais influências e barreiras ao compartilhamento da informação são analisadas sob a perspectiva da governança do conhecimento.

The interest in information sharing in organization environments is increasing, since investments in such area may contribute to growth and development. In this sense, based on a literature review, the paper identifies and analyzes the major influences and barriers to information sharing in organizations. Based on such review of the literature there is a reflection on the main factors influencing information exchange among individuals in organizational contexts. The main influences and barriers to information sharing are analized from the perspective of knowledge governance.

Com base nas perspectivas do marketing a da ciência da informação, o artigo relata os resultados de uma pesquisa sobre o processo de inovação em três indústrias brasileiras. Os objetivos do estudo foram: a) descrever os processos internos associados à concepção e ao desenvolvimento de inovações incrementais de produtos; b) identificar os atores envolvidos em cada etapa desses processos; c) descrever os contextos nos quais esses atores interagem; d) identificar e descrever as interfaces existentes entre esses atores; e) identificar e descrever os comportamentos de busca e uso da informação em cada etapa dos processos de inovação incremental de produto; e f) descrever as fontes de informação utilizadas em cada etapa. Os resultados demonstraram, dentre outros aspectos, a influência de aspectos relativos à tarefa sobre a extensão e o número de ciclos de busca, bem como o tipo de informação procurada.

Based on marketing and information science perspectives the article reports the results of a survey into the innovation process in three Brazilian industries. The objectives of the study were a) to describe the internal processes associated with the conception and development of incremental product innovation; b) to identify the players involved in each of these process steps; c) to describe the contexts within which these players interact; d) to identify and describe the interface that exists between these players; e) to identify and describe the search behavior and the use of information at each stage of the incremental product innovation process; and f) to describe the information sources used in each step. Among other aspects the results showed the influence of aspects related to the task on the extent and number of search cycles, as well as the type of information sought. Another discovery that is worth highlighting is the importance of the personal choices of corporate leaders on the information behavior of their subordinates.

Este artigo aborda os resultados e proposições da investigação da gestão do conhecimento organizacional conduzida no período de 2001-2007. Este estudo longitudinal teve como único objectivo o de investigar e analisar os processos de “Gestão do Conhecimento” (GC) eficazmente implementados no universo das organizações trabalham ou têm influência fora das fronteiras nacionais. O principal objectivo foi o de investigar e analisar concepções, motivações, práticas, métricas e resultados dos processos de GC existentes em diferentes indústrias. O primeiro conjunto de estudos envolveu 20 casos descritos na literatura e serviu de base para a abordagem teórica designada “Proposição do Mapa Conceptual Integrativo da GC”. Esta proposta teórica foi posteriormente testada através de um estudo qualitativo em três organizações de grande dimensão do Brasil. Os resultados do estudo qualitativo validaram a proposição do mapa e levantaram questões para nova investigação no âmbito da implementação de um modelo de estratégia organizacional baseado no conhecimento.

This paper discusses the results and propositions of organizational knowledge management research conducted in the period 2001-2007. This longitudinal study had the unique goal of investigating and analyzing “Knowledge Management” (KM) processes effectively implemented in world class organizations. The main objective was to investigate and analyze the conceptions, motivations, practices, metrics and results of KM processes implemented in different industries. The first set of studies involved 20 world cases related in the literature and served as a basis for a theoretical framework entitled “KM Integrative Conceptual Mapping Proposition”. This theoretical proposal was then tested in a qualitative study in three large organizations in Brazil. The results of the qualitative study validated the mapping proposition and left questions for new research concerning the implementation of a knowledge-based organizational model strategy.

Identificadas 30 fontes utilizadas por consultores, categorizadas quanto à origem (internas/externas), proximidade (pessoais/impessoais) e mídia (eletrônicas/ não-eletrônicas). Identificado o comportamento de busca dos consultores, relacionado à freqüência, relevância e confiabilidade das fontes. Fontes eletrônicas possuem maior freqüência; fontes pessoais são mais relevantes e confiáveis. Identificado o comportamento de uso da informação dos consultores: para dar sentido às mudanças do ambiente externo, construir conhecimento ou embasar a tomada de decisão, sendo este o principal objetivo quando da busca de informações pelos consultores.

Thirty sources used by business consultants were identified and categorized according to the origin (internal/external), proximity (personal/non-personal) and media (electronic/non-electronic). The behavior of the consultants for seeking information was identified, with emphasis on the frequency, perceived relevance and reliability. Electronic sources are more frequently accessed: personal sources are more relevant and reliable. The behavior of the consultants as for information use was identified: to make sense of the changes of the external environmental, to build knowledge or support decision-making. This last aspect was considered the main objective of information search for the consultants.

Com o advento da Internet, grandes mudanças têm ocorrido na maneira que as empresas divulgam informações sobre a performance econômica, financeira e ambiental de suas atividades. A divulgação de informações de natureza ambiental ocorre voluntariamente por parte das empresas e essa é uma prática crescente entre elas. Acredita-se que essa é uma forma de as empresas responderem a mudanças estruturais, assim como estabelecer um diálogo mais transparente com os seus stakeholders. Este estudo exploratório teve por objetivo identificar as diferenças na divulgação voluntária de informações ambientais via Internet e via relatórios contábeis de uma amostra de 60 companhias brasileiras que exercem atividades potencialmente poluidoras. Ao comparar o conteúdo de informações divulgadas via relatórios contábeis com as informações divulgadas na Internet, observou-se diferenças significativas, ou seja, foram encontradas mais que o dobro de informações ambientais divulgadas voluntariamente na Internet. Entretanto, foram identificadas muitas divergências na forma de divulgação entre empresas do mesmo setor, tanto através da Internet como por meio dos relatórios contábeis.

Due to the Internet arrival, companies have drastically changed the way to present information about economic, financial and environmental activities performance. Most companies voluntarily report environmental data and this is a growing tendency. This is probably a way companies react to structural changes, as well as establish a clearer dialogue with its stakeholders. This exploratory study aimed to identify the differences between disclosing environmental voluntary information on the Internet and through accounting reports from a sample universe of 60 Brazilian companies performing potentially polluting activities. There were meaningful differences between the information contents in accounting reports and Internet data. More than the double of the amount of voluntary environmental information was found on the Internet. Nevertheless, there were a lot of discrepancies in the way companies in the same field reported information both via the Internet and in accounting reports.

O artigo relata as motivações, concepções, práticas gerenciais, ênfases, métricas, indicadores e resultados de programas de gestão do conhecimento (GC) em três empresas que atuam no Brasil. Os resultados sugerem que a expressão "gestão do conhecimento" seja ao mesmo tempo um paradoxo e uma impropriedade terminológica. O trabalho conclui também que os principais desafios impostos às organizações comprometidas com a GC são a gestão de mudanças culturais e comportamentais e a criação de um contexto organizacional favorável à criação, uso e compartilhamento da informação e do conhecimento.

The article describes the motivations, conceptions, managerial practices, priorities, metrics, indicators and results of knowledge management programs in three companies operating in Brazil. The results suggest that the expression "knowledge management" is at the same time a paradox and a terminological impropriety. The paper also concludes that the main challenges faced by companies are the management of cultural and behavioral changes and the creation of an organizational context which is favorable to the creation, use and sharing of information and knowledge.

O artigo analisa a área de biblioteconomia/ciência da informação em termos dos desafios e oportunidades atuais para os profissionais e para os programas de formação profissional. As desvantagens da denominação tradicional da profissão, usualmente associada à biblioteca e ao livro, são abordadas. Soluções adotadas por escolas, departamentos e entidades profissionais, especialmente na América do Norte e na Grã-Bretanha, são relatadas. Aponta oportunidades para profissionais de informação possuidores de habilidades diversificadas. Apresenta modelos que retratam a importação e exportação de conhecimento entre a biblioteconomia/ ciência da informação e outras áreas. Defende a necessidade de se promover a aplicação do conhecimento específico da área de biblioteconomia/ciência da informação em contextos e ambientes informacionais amplos.

The paper analyses the current threats and opportunities faced by the area of Library/ Information Science. It deals with questions related to its name, professional development programs and labor market opportunities. The disadvantages associated with the tradicional denomination of the profession, usually associated to libraries and books, are highlighted. Solutions adopted by schools and departments, especiallly in North America and Great Britain, are related. Market opportunities for information professionals with a wide range of habilities are stressed. The paper presents a model that depicts the processes of importation and exportation of knowledge among Library/ Information Science and other areas and defends the need for strategies aimed at the application of the traditional knowledge of the field in broader information contexts and environments.
